Sandy Lockwoods ‘Pony’ Kiln

Danielle Vibert

Danielle is a ceramic artist based in the Southern Highlands of NSW Australia, creating both functional and sculptural wood-fired pottery. Her work blends utility and artistry, focusing on tableware designed for everyday use. Each piece is meticulously crafted on the wheel and then transformed through the dynamic and unpredictable process of wood firing, which imbues every creation with rich textures and earthy tones unique to the fire’s influence.

Her creative process revolves around the exploration of clay’s limits—altering and manipulating forms to reveal their full potential. She is deeply inspired by the natural landscape around her, which mirrors her desire to push the boundaries of her craft. This journey began in 2020, when she turned from textiles and sketch design to the medium of clay, seeking a more tactile, hands-on connection with her work.

She is constantly refining her techniques and gaining new insights into the ceramic process through her assisting work and residency experiences. Her work is a reflection of her commitment to continuous learning, pushing creative boundaries, and honouring the natural world that inspires her.
